Celebrities Target Blogs to Manage Public Image

Who says blogs are meant for businesses only? With the growing visibility of blogs each day, even celebrities are forced to use them to control their public image by talking about themselves in a direct manner with their fans.

Speaking directly to the fans give one certain advantage of expressing themselves better as compared to arranging a publicist or a P.R. agent to speak for them. They get to speak what’s in their mind, than just asking some other party to speak about them.

In the entertainment industry, it is prerequisite to keep in constant touch with the public to stay alive and kicking in the market. As soon as you decide to stay away from them for a long time, your brand value tends to go down.

So, how are blog posts controlled by celebrities? They (celebrities) include recent happenings taking place in their life and express their beliefs and ideas regarding a particular happening that took place lately. For example, in response to the recent incident where Lindsay Lohan was pelted with flour outside a Paris club for wearing fur, Samantha Ronson slammed the animal rights activists who threw the flour with a widely reported blog post.

Another recent example of a celebrity using blog is Lauren Conrad, the reality star of TV show ‘The Hills’, who disputed a newspaper story that she threw a fit at a New York airport.

Social networking is another phenomenon that has hit the Web with a great speed. Social networks such as MySpace and Facebook have a considerable fan following and celebrities too are a part of it. These social platforms give the entertainment stars an opportunity to build as many fans as possible. Also, whatever they say on their profile is eyed carefully by news organizations and media as well, to which some celebrities do not have a problem with.

Take the example of hotel heiress and a popular public figure Paris Hilton, who communicates frequently with fans through her MySpace page. Hilton recently said in a statement that she has read several lies about her in the press, to which the fans always know to check the blog whenever they read anything that is negative. She said that she responds to them, and not to gossip outlets. Britney Spears is another example who joined Twitter recently with an account using the name ‘therealbritney’.

Besides, there are several other celebrities like Hilton who use blog posts for speed and convenience to make sure they get noticed by the public, such as Amitabh Bachchan, an immensely popular Bollywood personality.

Therefore, it is not really surprising that the number of entertainers with MySpace has nearly doubled with 600 as compared to January with 300.
