How to make your mark online

All through our lives, we revere and respect a bunch of people. We put them on a pedestal because of something they’ve accomplished or because they set a standard or example of what we think is an ideal. It could be a musician, a movie star, writer or businessperson, but they exist in almost everybody’s world.

Just because we idolise people, that does not mean that they are perfect. They might have the money, the talent or the right acumen for something you’re into, but at the end of the day, they are just human beings. They have their weaknesses. But hey; that’s life, huh?

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and the end need not be too far away, for you don’t have to be rich or famous to be popular. You just have to be an authority figure. And where better to do this than on the Internet. There are millions of people using the Internet at any given point, scouring it for valuable information. All you have to do is bring out the expert in you.

Once people start to notice that you are an expert on a particular topic, they will start looking up to you as an authority figure, which means that you will be respected. Don’t expect it to happen overnight, though. Getting to a good level of respect could take months, or in some cases, even years.

There is another advantage to being an authority, and that is the fact that you can now push a polite sales pitch in someone’s face and not get a door slammed in yours. As an advertising copywriter or a blog writer, being an authority on a particular product or service will definitely add value to your sales.

It is always good to start off by being the good guy, which means that you have to try and be helpful. Publish answers for common queries that the people in you industry need. Writing and giving away short e-books and reports will also help to a great extent.

No matter how hard you try, it’s not easy to earn respect on your own. If you network well, you can easily get other sites and blogs to help out, especially if you show them that your work is doing a bit of good on the web. As long as you get people to say something good about you, your product or service, you’re on a roll! At the same time, it is also good to get testimonials from customers. Nothing sells a product better than a happy customer, as this will just go to show that you are selling something that’s worthwhile.

There are a lot of small awards and certificates that will look great on your web space. Try and get some of these, and this will add a lot of credibility to what you have to offer.

Being a blog writer or an online copywriter is one thing, but being a star is another. After reading these pointers, all you have to do, is go out there and practice them, and if you do it right, you could be on your way to online success!
