A Copywriter’s Dictionary

Hear you me! If there ever were a dictionary designed solely for the copywriting clique, then the following are the words it would enclose. These words are as powerful as they come and are what rules the copywriting terrain in the digital media. So grab your pens and note them down.

  • FREE – Everything online is free, absolutely free including your copy. Yes, we know your copywriting services aren’t quite free though. The point is, the minute a reader spots this magic word, he loses all his sense of reasoning and chases it to the end of eternity. Basically, the word ‘free’ for the user is like that ray of hope they never thought they’d see.
  • HOW TO – ‘How to’ for readers is a solution to all their problems. What schools and colleges failed to teach you will be solved here at ‘how to’, be it a ‘how to communicate with the opposite sex’ or a ‘how to do just about everything’.
  • YOU – Yes, turn the tables around and give your reader all the attention they deserve. Get your words to converse with them on a one-on-one basis.
  • GUARANTEE – Nothing & no one assures the way ‘Guarantee’ does. In an age when nothing seems certain, no one seems trustworthy; guarantee is that beam of light at the end of a tunnel.
  • EASY – When the going gets tough or even if it’s just a question of pure laziness, you could do with a little lenience. ‘Easy’ is an opportunity bestowed upon the reader to cut some slack into their lives.

  • HURRY – Hurry! It’s the end of the world. Go fetch it before it’s too late. You get the idea.
  • SECRETS – A secret is like a Pandora’s Box waiting to be unlocked. That which is unknown will always be glorious, that is until it is sought. So assume you have a few secrets up your sleeve and announce it out to the masses, you sure will grab a bucketful of eyeballs. Curiosity definitely won’t kill the cat in this case.
