No! This is definitely not a post targeted at football fanatics on how to score a header. But you did get to thinking in that direction, didn’t you?
That’s the power vested in a headline.
How do you think the big daddies like Nike and Coca-Cola have made it big? The journey definitely did not come easy. But brands like them and many others have caught readers by the eye with path-breaking and exceptional headlines.
Back in the day when I was in my teens and walking my way to college, my feet suddenly ceased to move further. Little did I know that it wasn’t that my feet could not move forward, but my eyes that were unable to pay less heed to a headline on a banner that read something like this – ‘This advertisement is for the ones who cannot see.’ The advertising banner belonged to that of an Association for the Blind. I froze in astonishment! A headline like that gets your heart to pound faster than never before.
Headlines are the main weapon in a copywriter’s arsenal. This alone can get your reader to proceed further and extending his attention span to concentrate on your ad.
If you are looking to ‘raise hell’ (just a figure of speech) with your ad, the headline would have to be a cracker.
So go ahead, there are no limits, no borders. Let your headline score!
