How do you price yourself?

There’ll be plenty of people who will tell you not to sell yourself short. This is very true. A lot of us online copywriters will do almost anything to get our hands on that new project that everyone has been vying for. In order to do this, we often lower our rates to below market prices.

Although the above idea will be torn apart by most online copywriters, there is another side to the story. What price we set for our work is one thing, but who we work with, and what kind of work we choose to do is another. Both of these aspects have separate values altogether, making it impossible to dismiss one over the other.

Each situation is a different one, and you cannot judge an offer merely by the price you are getting paid. There are a lot of other aspects that come into play that pertain to not only who we are working with and the kind of work we are doing, but also the situation we are in.

If you are ever stuck in such a position, there are a few questions that you should ask yourself. These are:

•    What kind of client are you dealing with?
•    What kind of a relationship do you have with the client, and is it going good so far?
•    How much time will the client take with just meetings?
•    Will you have to do any travel?
•    Are the deadlines and commitments reasonable enough?
•    Is this project a one-time-only thing, or is the client willing to take it further?
•    How do you feel about the client? Do you think it is going to go anywhere in the future?

How you answer these questions will determine you how much to charge the client. It could be a lot more, or a lot less than the market rate, depending on how much you value the given project
