Long copy – are you doing it right?

bored-man-on-compIf not written properly, long copy can be a real pain to read. And if that is the case, why write it at all? You need to find a way to write long copy without boring your readers to death.
Even while writing copy, we are often distracted by the smallest things. The truth is that we are looking for these distractions most of the time. Even though you know that the deadline is around the corner, you can’t help but think about a cup of coffee or what your wife is cooking for dinner.

Well, if it is so tough for you, imagine what it must be like for readers! You need to hold on to your readers’ before they all disappear. Here are a few pointers that will surely help you do the same:

•    Make sure that your call to action is strategically placed in many places, throughout the article. There are some readers who will like what you are selling almost immediately. For these people, you need to place a call to action in the first third part of the screen area so that they can act on their decision sooner! Also place it in all the spots in which your copy makes a strong statement. Do not make the mistake of putting it only at the end, as this will only make you lose out on sales.

•    Try and avoid having too many outbound links, especially ones linking sites similar to yours. You will end up driving potential customers away from your site, and on to your competitor’s. It also breaks the train of though, which is something you do not want to do while trying to sell something. The bottom line is: do not distract the reader.

•    Add an option for readers on a time crunch. Allow them to take a quick look at all the highlights of your copy, so that they will get better acquainted with what you are selling.

•    At the end of the day, too much copy can be boring. Add a little something extra to your copy, by including charts and diagrams. And colour these as well, so as to add a little character.

Try out the above, and you will see that it really does work! It’ll be better for your business
