Concentrate More on Traffic Quality, not Quantity!

Online traffic plays a very important role in the success of a website or blog. Higher traffic reflects the popularity of a website/blog, and helps in achieving top search engine results. However, driving in people is a tedious task, considering there are millions of websites and blogs available on the Web today.

Primarily, there are vast differences between Traffic Quality and Traffic Quantity. While the former aims at drawing a specific target online audience, the latter focuses only on the number of visits, irrespective of the nature of the audience.

Now there are few aspects why traffic quality scores above traffic quantity, the details of which are explained below:

Traffic Quantity:

Traffic quantity can be generated by providing articles, news and stories on topics that appeal to the general masses. It can be about the latest movie reviews, celebrity news, controversial topics, an upcoming mega sports event, or any other subject that is interesting and striking to the human reader.

However, the life span of this method is short. It may attract hundreds of visitors per day, but remember that they are only short time guests. This is because the controversial or interesting content that you generate purposely may not actually go in sync with your website’s nature.

One of the most popular mediums used to strike the reader’s attention is social media. Generally, such topics are posted on famous social networking sites which attract loads of daily unique visitors. Even in this case, the sole objective is to maximize the traffic quantity, which may eventually sustain for a very short period of time.

Keeping aside the duration aspect, traffic quantity can work well for blogs that are fed with adsense. Large traffic represents a greater scope for people to click through targeted ads that may earn you a huge chunk of money. But again, this is not an ideal strategy if you wish to create a brand that lasts long and speaks about your website, as the traffic in this case is not consistent and loyal enough to visit your website regularly.

Traffic Quality:

To create a long lasting impression on the targeted readers, it is necessary to consider traffic quality than traffic quantity. This is for the simple reason that your website/blog content is focused on a particular set of people, i.e. your target audience, with an aim to attract them on a continuous basis instead of gaining large traffic at a single time only.

These are the people who know what your website/blog is about and the content that you wish to offer to them. Once they get acquainted, they become loyal to you and start visiting the Web pages again and again.

Quality traffic can prove very successful in having a long-term growth as well as in powerful branding or re-branding approaches. Though it may take some time initially, the same technique of infusing interesting content can prove helpful to speed up the pace of quality traffic visits. However, the distinctive point here is that the interesting content is related and lies in sync with the website’s nature, though in a creative manner.

Moreover, even in this case, social networking sites can be used extensively to promote the website/blog through various related articles and posts that are written differently, with an aim to attract the reader’s attention.

Hence, it is wiser to concentrate on traffic quality than traffic quantity if you wish your website/blog to survive in the virtual world for a very long time.
