Google Races Ahead of Yahoo in Ad Clicks
Google emerged as a leader yet again and raced ahead of Yahoo, its major online competitor, in the segment of paid advertisement clicks.
As per several analysts who cited data from comScore, the number of clicks on California based Google’s site ‘Mountain View’ boosted nearly 20 percent in April compared with the last year.
Since November, it was Google’s biggest increase, when comScore stated that its ad-click tally shot up 27 percent. On the other hand, clicks on California based Yahoo site ‘Sunnyvale’ fell 4 percent in April.
Google’s shares rose 2.6 percent to $583 at the close of trading, while Yahoo’s stock price plunged 0.3 percent and closed at $27.07.
Google refused to comment on comScore figures and Yahoo executives did not respond immediately to a request for comment either.
Moreover, analysts tend to be watchful regarding comScore data, which they believe doesn’t track every Internet search and can be misleading sometimes. For example, Google’s ad revenue to the federal government turned out to be much higher than what analysts had predicted by relying on comScore.
Even then, comScore is highly regarded generally. In fact, just few weeks back, it managed to draw huge attention when it found Google surpassed Yahoo in the number of unique monthly users and went on to become the nation’s most popular website.
