Google, Yahoo and Baidu are the Top Three Players in Asia-Pacific Search Market

According to comScore, a global internet information provider, Google dominated the Asian online search market with 39.1% share, and took a huge lead over its archrival yet partner Yahoo with 24% share, and Chinese leader Baidu with 16.7%, in the month of April. The results of the survey were released recently by comScore.

Jack Flanagan, Executive Vice President of comScore, said that Mountain View, California-based Google and Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo account for the majority of searches carried out in the overall region because of their strong presence in several Asia-Pacific countries. He further said that there are, however, several strong, local country search engines that play a significant role in the respective region as well.

On Baidu, Flanagan said that the dominating search engine in China accounts for one out of every six searches in Asia-Pacific most notably, even though the truth is that its users are primarily based in China.

But for Google, the Asian search market is definitely lucrative even though it hasn’t been able to knock down Baidu and grab the top position in China. In fact, Google is doing exceedingly well in other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, unlike Microsoft which is still facing some problems to set a strong foothold in the region. Moreover, comScore has reported that Microsoft’s search ranked sixth with a mere 1.8% share, after Google, Yahoo, Baidu, NHN, and Alibaba.com.
