MTS and MySpace Russia Collaborate to Develop New Services

Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) and MySpace Russia recently announced a partnership to develop and promote solutions for the MTS Russia subscribers. MTS is the largest mobile phone operator in Russia and CIS, while MySpace Russia is the localized version of the leading international social network.

As per the partnership terms, MySpace and MTS will develop an exclusive service for the MTS Russia subscribers that will form a part of MTS’ WAP-portal. Moreover, the companies are planning to introduce a MTS-branded community on MySpace Russia site for driving usage and supporting the partnership.

Product and service development director of MTS Russia, Pavel Roytberg said the company is looking forward to introducing more than 60 million MTS customers in Russia, which is the country’s largest subscriber base, to the leading online social network MySpace.

Roytberg added by saying that the partnership fits well into the company’s strategy to provide Web 2.0 and social networking capabilities to its subscribers and MySpace’s new service on the company’s WAP-Portal will further enable it to explore innovative marketing initiatives, like viral marketing. The combined force of the two popular brands will bring increased portability and enhanced access to customers of MySpace as well as MTS, further enriching the mobile user experience.

MySpace is immensely popular for its networking and creative solutions which transfigured social networking. Moreover, from a common man to a celebrity to an inspiring artist, everyone can enjoy the benefits of online networking. The general director of MySpace Russia, Aleksandr Turkot termed this partnership as a key strategic move for MySpace as it allows the online firm to provide Russian customers unprecedented access to networking through their mobile phones.

On the other hand, MTS is the foremost mobile operator in providing value added services in Russia, churning out 32% market share of value added services revenues and a mammoth 43.2% share of mobile content revenues in Q1’2008[1]. With the MySpace collaboration, MTS is committed further to developing advanced content and data solutions for the users to facilitate mobile access to communication and information sources, which was earlier available only at home.
