Yahoo Plans Big to Lure Users with Two New E-mail Domains

In an attempt to create and sustain a strong foothold in the e-mail market, Yahoo is allowing users to create e-mail accounts using two new domains ‘ymail’ and ‘rocketmail’. The move is planned to maintain the existing users as well as attract new ones.

The Sunnyvale, California-based internet giant has been credited by analysts with being the most popular Web-based e-mail service provider across the globe.

With the addition of new domains, users who have showed disinterest or are done using the yahoo.com email addresses will finally have better choices to avail the electronic mailing service.

Whether first-time users or the existing ones, people want an email address that reflects who they are, which is what Yahoo has recognized. According to John Kremer, VP of Yahoo Mail, there are several user IDs out there and it is pretty crowded, and Yahoo is looking out for remedies that can make sure users get the ID they want.

As per industry statistics, Yahoo Mail has approximately 266 million users currently. With its growing popularity over the years, there are several more people who trust in its e-mail service, and thus are registering with Yahoo.

News is that the free e-mail addresses are typically assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Accounts that are created with the new domain names will work on the same Yahoo Mail interfaces and will get unlimited storage for free. Moreover, localized county versions of the domain would be made available, and the ID’s could be used for signing in to other sites and services provided by Yahoo!, such as Yahoo! Messenger and Flickr.

It is learnt that Yahoo will auction off special email addresses as part of the launch, and the proceeds will be donated to Ocean Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Right to Play and The Point Foundation. The auction will run till June 30 this year.
