Linkbaiting – is it good or bad?

If you really want something to catch people’s attention on your blog or site, you need to do something that will make a big impression. This is called a linkbait or backlink. A lot of people think that linkbaits are unethical, but there really is nothing wrong with them. What’s the harm in getting a little extra attention?

A linkbait can be set up by working really hard or working really smart. I honestly think that the latter is a better option. If you are a creative person, why not make proper use of your genius? All you really have to do is stir things up a bit. Be really creative, create a controversy, or do something out of order that will create a lot of talk. Some of this talk will be negative, but it will all contribute towards your blog’s publicity.

Getting backlinks is very important, as it is nothing but free publicity for your blog or site. Other ways to get back links are through submitting unique articles to directories, and by posting on forums and replying on other blogs and sites as well.

As I said before, linkbaiting is considered by some as an ‘evil’ practice, but what’s the harm, especially if it is interesting and fun? But whatever you do, never overdo it, as the trick will lose its charm. I genuinely feel that the whole idea of creating controversy can sometimes be taken a little too far, ending in conflict. If you ask me, I would definitely go for the creative method. I feel that this is a surefire way of getting backlinks without raising too much of a stink! ;)
